Master, carest thou not that we perish?

I don’t post much here since we’ve been sending the prayer requests out through email, but I wanted to share the following with you from Alan Lawrence.  Alan is an inspiring and gifted writer in his 30s who has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.  I’m on his email list to receive a series of messages he calls "Look Upward".  I’m always amazed at how much wisdom he packs into so few words.  This really encouraged me today.  I love you guys, Sharyn

Mark 4:38 “And [Jesus] was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?”

Some people act as if they think worrying is a ministry to which God has called them. They’re likely to worry about most anything, and often get stressed out from the strain of it all. Heaven help you if they find you don’t share their level of concern! “Master, don’t you care that we’re going to die?” Though admittedly they were in a very worrisome situation, the disciples implied that Jesus didn’t care. However, His lack of concern was not based on carelessness or apathy. He knew His Father was fully in control and wouldn’t let anything hinder His perfect plan. In verse 40 Jesus asked the disciples why they had no faith, revealing that the root of worry is unbelief. When we worry, we’re saying “God, I don’t think you can handle this.” It’s like trying to do God’s job for Him. No wonder it’s stressful: we’re not qualified for that! When we trust the Lord to do His job, we find rest even in chaotic situations. “Don’t give up the ship!”

Psalm 26:7 "That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works."

Request for Prayer

Jim V (tenor) told me about a situation that really needs our prayer.  A couple from Laurens found their 5 month old baby unconscious Christmas Eve morning. He ended up dying from SIDS.  The mother works with a friend of Jim’s. They are devastated as expected. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as they try to find some peace about this tragedy.

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Jesus is our hope in a dark world.

Praying for those who have lost loved ones.

Many of you will know by now that Joe's mom went to be with the LORD on Friday morning.  Joe and family were with her. Please pray for them during this tender time. I was encouraged and very moved to see Joe with other members of our music ministry leading worship this morning.  I pretty much lost it by the time they got to "I wonder What Christmas in Heaven is Like".  What a sweet moment!

I know that we're also all in prayer for the families and community of the Sandy Hook School.  That tragedy is beyond words.

Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free. From our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in Thee.
